Adem's Story
Adem was born on January 23, 2020, with short segment Hirschsprung’s disease (SSHD)—a diagnosis that came as an unexpected and overwhelming shock. In those early days, we focused inward, leaning on the love and support of close friends and family as we navigated his care.
At just two weeks old, Adem faced his first surgery to receive a colostomy bag—a brave start for such a little fighter. His treatment followed a typical two-stage process: first, the surgeons removed the affected part of the intestine and at three months old, he underwent a successful reversal procedure connecting the healthy parts together. Through every step, Adem remained our joyful beam of light—full of laughter, resilience, and an impressive love for life (and food!).
On February 20, 2022, Adem enjoyed one of his favorite dinners, cuddled his beloved stuffed animal, and went to bed with a smile. By morning, our world changed forever. Adem had passed away peacefully in his sleep.
The grief was unimaginable. His autopsy revealed a rare and sudden infection—something we never saw coming. He had shown no signs of illness, making our loss even harder to understand.
In the midst of heartbreak, we knew we wanted to honor the joy and light Adem brought into the world. That’s how the Adventures with Adem Foundation was born.
Our mission is to carry forward his spirit by bringing comfort, imagination, and small moments of joy to children facing medical challenges. Through capes, books, and thoughtful gifts, we aim to remind kids that even in hard times, they are seen, loved, and never alone.
